Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has announced plans to develop an intra-rail system that will connect with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) network, aiming to enhance trade and economic activities across the state and its neighboring regions.
During a meeting with NRC Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa at Government House on Thursday, Governor Mbah outlined the initiative as part of efforts to create a seamless common market that facilitates smoother trade through improved rail transport connectivity.
The governor praised the NRC’s work on revitalizing the Eastern Railway Corridor, a project that received President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement during his earlier visit to Enugu this year. Mbah is committed to providing state support for protecting NRC assets and ensuring the optimal operation of the corporation’s facilities.
Dr. Opeifa reaffirmed the NRC’s dedication to completing the priority Enugu-Port Harcourt railway project and emphasized the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments. He noted how Enugu’s infrastructure developments, including transport terminals, align with the NRC’s strategic objectives.
The partnership represents a significant step toward improving transportation infrastructure and economic integration in the southeastern region of Nigeria.
